Institute of Directors Scotland
State of the Nation report
A report for IoD Scotland presenting the views of Scottish business leaders across the country on key economic and organisational issues.
brief
The brief was to design a report that communicated the results of the IoD Scotland Directors Survey to a senior, board-level audience. It needed to make data accessible and engaging, reflecting IoD Scotland’s professional brand while encouraging readers to explore the findings. Beyond presenting survey results, the report also had to serve as a tool for members, policymakers, and stakeholders, reinforcing the organisation’s voice and credibility.
process
I developed a clean, structured design system using IoD Scotland’s brand palette, clear typography, and visual hierarchy to guide readers through the content. Each section was organised around key themes such as skills, employment, taxation, and innovation, with infographics, icons, and bold statistics to highlight insights. Large summary numbers, pull quotes, and thematic spreads made complex data digestible for time-poor directors. Close collaboration with IoD Scotland ensured the design communicated the right tone and emphasis, and the final layouts were optimised for both digital and print distribution.
outcome
The report transformed complex survey data into a publication that was both engaging and authoritative. Its clear structure and visual presentation made key insights easy to grasp, and it featured prominently in IoD Scotland’s communications, receiving positive feedback from members and stakeholders. By presenting findings in an accessible and visually coherent way, the design strengthened IoD Scotland’s ability to share its message and reinforced its reputation as a trusted advocate for Scottish business.
